Absolutely Natural Skin Care Products
What does natural mean to you? It probably conveys images of Mother Nature, beautiful landscapes, clean air and pure water. What is meant by the term 'natural' products? On a product label, it carries connotations of purity, gentleness and radiant good health. It could mean that a product's ingredients come from nature (whether plant, animal or mineral). It could also mean that the ingredients imitate natural substances or are chemical precursors of natural substances.
All natural products claim to give the best results for radiant beauty. Further, the plant extracts, fruits and vegetables they use make the product smell so absolutely divine that you're lured into buying and using the product.
While buying 'natural' product remember following things:
- Even if only one substance in a product is natural, marketers can use them. However, in reality, natural ingredients could make up less than one per cent of the total ingredients used in the product.
- All items with natural ingredients also contain numerous chemicals, including preservatives, stabilizers, dyes and fragrances.
- At the molecular level, synthetics often resemble natural substances. In fact, chemicals synthesized in a laboratory are often based on natural prototypes. Today, cosmetic technology has advanced so much that synthetic is not only more effective but can even be safer to use than natural ingredients.
- If a product were truly all-natural, you might not want to buy it anyway. Chemical perfumes, preservatives and colors make many substances stay fresher and more appealing than they are in their natural state.
- Just because a product claims to be natural, there is no guarantee it will not cause any reaction. Besides, all so-called natural products do have a long list of synthetic additives and preservatives. Even some natural ingredients can irritate sensitive skin or, worse, trigger allergic reactions. Also many natural ingredients have a certain sensitizing potential that synthetic products don't. Thus, if you have sensitive skin, it would be advisable to avoid all natural products, particularly products which contain royal jelly, obtained from honeybees and found in 'rejuvenating' skin treatments or wrinkle creams, tea tree oil and aloe vera. Also on the no-no list for those with sensitive skin is aromatherapy products, which use plant and flower oils. This is because fragrances can cause reactions and pigmentation.
