Airbrush Makeup
Airbrush makeup creates a flawless face. A little amount of specific foundation makeup is mixed with a few drops of water and then sprayed onto the face with a wand. The pigments are distributed over the skin as a film of thousands of micro droplets. The droplets are so small, that one alone is almost undetectable to the human eye. This is why Airbrushed make-up has the magic to trick us into believing that there is no make-up at all and we are looking at a natural face.
Tools for At-Home Airbrush Application
- airbrush compressor
- airbrush wand (sometimes called a pen)
- hose (connects the wand and the compressor)
- makeup foundation
- bottled water
First time users can get hold of this equipment in a kit. After that, all you will require is the foundation. Once you have bought your kit, the only further cost is foundation. Some companies are making smaller compressors, which are convenient for home use and for travel.
How to Apply
- Add a few drops of foundation into the cup along with a few drops of water. (Each brand will possess its own instructions telling you specifically how many drops of each to use.)
- Hold the wand about six to ten inches from your face and spray the mixture in gentle circles over your face and neck. Never hold the wand in one place. Keep it moving and do not spray it into your eyes. Keep your eyes closed if you can.
- Let it dry. If you want, you can apply a second coat. After that is dry, you are good to go. Then there will be no need of a finishing touch or setting powder.
What Kind of Foundation to Buy
There are two types of airbrush makeup foundations such as: silicone-based and water-based. Many professionals suggest the silicone based, saying that it creates flawless look. You need to purchase dedicated airbrush makeup - you cannot use your regular foundation in these machines.
Blush and Eye Shadow
You can buy airbrush-ready blush and eye shadow, although that may need you to purchase a special nozzle for your wand. However, once your basic foundation is dry there is no problem using your regular powder blush and eye makeup.
Airbrush Advantages
- Airbrushed makeup lasts for about 10 or 20 hours with an average of around 16 hours. It will not rub off on anything or fade away into your pores.
- If you are using the makeup - at a wedding for example - the airbrush system is hygienic since it never actually touches the skin.
- Some of the kits and foundations can be worn on legs to conceal veins and discolorations.
- Unique effects such as stencil tattoos are easily applied.
Airbrush Disadvantages
- It is costly, especially the initial cost.
- Applying the makeup takes lot of time and requires the equipment, a power supply, a water source and enough space.
- If you are applying it yourself and are alone, you have to do at least parts of the application with your eyes closed. You do not want to get the product go into your eyes.
- You cannot carry it into your purse like your mineral makeup or regular foundation.
Still that ultra perfect pore-less even look is a very attractive idea. Some women even say the makeup conceals some of their wrinkles. If you want that look, airbrush makeup is certainly worth an attempt.
